Free PowerPoint Compatible
Presentation Viewers

Viewers like Microsoft's PowerPoint 2003 Viewer and Columbus Viewer is another avenue to try with corrupt PPT files.  If the file does open in the PowerPoint Viewer, the only way to recover the data, may be to right click on one of the slides, choose Print, and select a preinstalled free PDF printer.  Please see here for free PDF printers.  Columbus Viewer allows you to copy images from its viewer to the clipboard.
