Lotus123 Repair FreewareThe freeware is for older versions of Lotus, but then again, that's what a lot of people have. Name - Bytefix
Download URL - download Developer - IBM OS - Windows File Size -24.74 KB
Supported Software Versions or File Systems - Lotus 123 Release 5 for Windows
Developer Provided Description - "The BYTEFIX utility is designed to address a situation in which 123 Release 5 for Windows (123W) is unable to open certain corrupted .WK4 files. Under a particular set of circumstances, which are unrelated to the operation of 123W, data files of different types are corrupted when extra bytes (characters) are appended to the end of the file. 123W is unable to read a .WK4 file that has been corrupted in this fashion; consequently, the program generates an "Error Reading File" message. BYTEFIX is designed specifically for those .WK4 files that have been corrupted by the additional bytes appended to the end of the file. Important : BYTEFIX does not correct 123W files which generate the "Error Reading File" message but have been corrupted by other circumstances (such as disk-write caching, magnets, incompatible network software and so forth)."
Comment -The actual program should be available from IBM. Write me if you can't get it and I'll send it to you. Download URL - Click here to download BackFour.zip
Developer - warr computers
OS - Windows File Size - 122.74KB
Supported Software Versions or File Systems - Lotus 1-2-3 Version 4
Developer Provided Description - "Richard Warr developed the BackFour WK4 file recovery program back in 1996. The software is able to overcome most problems encountered with corrupt WK4 files by converting them back to the simpler WK3 format. BackFour was successful as a shareware product and we're pleased to say that the fully-functional registered version is now available free of charge. A lot of people have asked if I have anything that will fix corruption in .123 files used by the most recent versions of 1-2-3. Sadly the answer is "no" at the moment as I am unable to get hold of the correct file format from Lotus. If I can in the future, then hopefully a utility will be forthcoming."
Comment - None Download URL - FIXWK4
Developer - Lotus Development Corporation
OS - Windows File Size - 24.74 KB
Supported Software Versions or File Systems - Lotus 1-2-3 version-5
Developer Provided Description - "In January of 1994 reports appeared in the press saying that users of 1-2-3 were experiencing file problems. Issues like this are not widespread but when they do occur are most often are not caused by 1-2-3. File problems can result from magnets, disk write caching, certain network software, etc. Lotus has tracked these issues and found in a very few cases 1-2-3 is inadvertently saving files which cause a General Protection Fault (GPF) when the files are opened. The enclosed utility (FIXWK4.EXE) can be used to correct problems with files that are causing GPF's if the problem was caused by this one issue that has been identified by Lotus. All the data in the file should be intact."
Comment - The blurb here is from the readme file.
